① According to the material classification: carbon steel wire rope, stainless steel wire rope.

② Classification according to surface state

Phosphating coated steel wire rope (Chinese patent): referred to as phosphating steel wire rope. The phosphating film of rope-making steel wire weighs 3-60g/m2. After phosphating, the steel wire before twisting is not cold drawn. Strand, steel core and steel wire rope are directly twisted. Phosphating film can improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the surface of rope-making steel wire. Since the phosphating coating makes the surface of the steel wire more wear-resistant, and the phosphating film is not conductive, it can improve the corrosion resistance of the steel wire at the same time. The service life of the phosphating steel wire rope is 2-3 times that of the smooth steel wire rope, and the fatigue resistance of the steel wire rope is greatly improved.

Plain steel wire rope: rope-making steel wire obtained after heat treatment and cold drawing of raw materials prepared on the surface. The steel wire does not undergo any surface treatment to directly twist strands, steel cores and steel wire ropes.

Galvanized steel wire rope: including hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing two methods, the protection of the galvanized layer on the steel wire belongs to the anode protection, the thicker the galvanized layer, the stronger the corrosion resistance.

Plastic-coated steel wire rope: the outer surface of the steel wire rope or the outer surface of the strand is coated with the corresponding thickness of plastic, including polyethylene, polypropylene, polyurethane, etc.

③ According to the wire rope twisting method

Single-strand rope: also known as single-twisted rope, it is made of rope-making steel wire, twisted around the intermediate wire or hemp core, and can be twisted with one or more layers of steel wire.

Double twisted rope: It is made by twisting the double-stranded rope around the rope core (steel core or fiber core). It can be twisted with one or more layers of steel wire. It is a very widely used steel wire rope.

Three twisted rope: double twisted rope is twisted around the core of the rope, mainly used for thick steel wire ropes with a diameter of more than 60mm.

④ According to the contact state of steel wires inside the strand

Point contact steel wire rope: the diameter of the steel wire in the strand is the same, the twist angle between each layer of steel wire is the same, the twist length is different, the inner and outer layers of steel wire cross each other, in point contact.

Wire rope in line contact: the lay length of each layer of steel wire in the strand is the same and the lay angle is different, and the inner and outer layers of steel wire are in contact with each other on a spiral line, in line contact state. Under the same conditions of use, the service life of line contact wire rope is longer than that of point contact wire rope.

Compaction type steel wire rope: originally called surface contact steel wire rope. In the process of wire rope twisting, after forging and drawing, the contact surface is formed between the steel wires, including strand compaction, wire rope compaction and double strand compaction.

Sealing steel wire rope: The outer layer is made of special-shaped steel wire, including steel wire with T-shaped S-shaped Z-shaped section structure. The surface is smooth and the wear resistance is good. Compared with other types of steel wire ropes of the same diameter, the tensile strength is larger and can withstand Lateral pressure, but poor flexibility, complicated process, and high manufacturing cost. It is often used as a bearing cable, such as cable crane and cable on aerial ropeeways.
